FAQ

The Session

What is the best time of day to photograph?

The best light happens just after sunrise and in the last two hours before sunset. I would strongly suggest an early morning session when the light is soft and there are fewer crowds (depending on the season and weather permitting).

How long will our session last?

My sessions are laid back, free flowing and last for two hours.

Can you suggest places for us to take our portraits?

Of course! There are so many wonderful options here in Paris. My aim is always to create something unique and beautiful for each and every couple that I photograph. When you book, I'll send over my location guide that lists my favourite places as well as some example images to give you an idea of your options. Your personal preferences, the weather and even clothing choices all play a part in deciding the locations for your session.

How many locations can we choose?

You can select two to three locations for a two hour session (depending how spread out they are). I'll happily offer you recommendations of how long we would need to spend in each spot.

How will we move between locations?

During a two hour session we will usually take an Uber between locations, or walk if your chosen locations are close to one another. One Uber ride between locations is included in the session fee, however additional travel and your travel to and from the session is not.

Does travel in between locations count against our session time?

No. I always allow a little extra time for travel so that we can maximize our shooting time together.

Can we add on time?

I charge €300 per hour for additional coverage beyond what our agreement includes and you can choose to add on an extra hour as needed.

We're bad in front of the camera! Will you help direct us?

Of course. Don't fret - I'm a talker and have lots to say and plenty of ideas. I take an active approach to subtly directing you into the most natural and flattering poses. I like to keep everything as organic and as natural as possible. I'll make it painless and fun! It won't be nearly as bad as you think, I promise!

What if it rains?

This is not uncommon in Paris. We can certainly still work with light rain however in the event that the forecast is for heavy rain or a storm, rescheduling may be necessary and we’ll do our best to find another time during your stay that works for us both. If rescheduling isn't an option we'll bust out the cute umbrellas (I can bring some for you to use on request), photograph in adorable passages and embrace the Parisian café scene.

What if we need to reschedule?

I try to be as flexible as possible with scheduling and do not charge any fees to reschedule. I just ask that you let me know as soon as possible (at least 48 hours prior) if you need to change our session time or date.

What should we wear?

Your outfits should be a reflection of you! Neutral tones are ideal and light coloured clothing will help to reflect light (examples are white, blush, nude, yellow, gold and pastels). A touch of colour and some gorgeous accessories can really help brighten up your photos if Paris delivers an overcast day. Wear something that you are comfortable and can move in, that suits your individuality and makes you feel amazing! Ironing your chosen outfits the night before is highly recommended to avoid any necessary stress on the morning of our session.

Can we bring multiple outfits?

Absolutely - however I would suggest no more than one outfit change to maximise our shooting time together. Finding places to change is no mean feat in Paris and usually you will have to go into a café and order something to drink so that you can use their facilities to change. Please avoid bringing sizeable bags and clothing on coat hangers as when we stop for photos we'll need to put them down and leave them unattended.

What should we bring along to the session?

During the session, plan on only carrying the bare minimum. Bring a second outfit if you are planning on an outfit change but please leave large bags and valuables at your accommodation (I’ll have a small bag to carry your essentials). A jacket on chilly mornings is a must! If you are planning on wearing heels, don't forget to pack a pair of comfortable flat shoes (which are easy to change into) as we often walk a lot as we move between locations.

Should I consider getting hair and make up done?

Yes! I work with some very talented hair and make up artists here in Paris who I will happily put you in touch with once you've booked your session date. A hair and make up team can come to your accommodation in the early morning and will ensure that you arrive at our meeting point feeling totally gorgeous and ready to begin our session together.

Where should we send our shot requests?

I unfortunately do not accept shot requests, as it prevents me from creating the beautiful images that you see showcased on my website and blog. My photographs are custom tailored to a couple based on their personalities, outfit selections, height differences, the weather and the location.

The Images

How will you edit our images?

My editing style is minimal because my goal is always to capture natural beauty in the best light possible. My stance on Photoshop is that less is more and the photos that you’ll receive will have been hand edited by yours truly.

Can we choose which photos you will edit?

I don't offer you the opportunity to choose the final images that I will edit for your gallery. Rest assured that you will receive the crème de la crème of what we take during the session!

When and how will we receive our images?

Your best images will be delivered digitally within 30 days of your session. I will email you a link to your personal and password protected online viewing gallery to download the high-resolution files and share them with your family and friends (and on social media) if you so wish.

How long will the images be available in the online gallery?

I can guarantee that the images are available in the online gallery for three months following the date of delivery.

Can some of our photos be edited in both black and white and in colour?

The images that I edit and deliver in black and white are only available in black and white. If you have preferences for more/less black and white images in your final gallery, just let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate your wishes.

Can we have the original files of all of the unedited JPEGS?

The original photo files (what's referred to as the RAW images) are for studio use only. My process is to only select and edit the very best photos so that you don't have to! The images in your gallery will allow you to print canvases, large prints and a host of other items.

Can we see the outtakes (the images that didn't make the final cut?)

I will edit the images with the ideal compositions, facial expressions, lighting, backgrounds and focus and deliver in a way that reflects my style. The images you didn’t receive won’t be archived and therefore won’t be available to you after your portrait session.

Can we share our images on a personal blog/Facebook/Instagram?

Of course! I would love for you to share your favourite images from your portrait session. I kindly ask that you include a little shout out in the caption - Photography by Katie Mitchell.

Booking & Payment

How do we book?

To get your date in the diary I require a signed agreement and a reservation retainer of €500 paid via Transferwise. Simply request my client agreement, fill it out online and I'll send along an invoice for the reservation retainer. Once paid, the time and date of your session is secured. The remaining balance of €500 is due either via Transferwise before our session date or on the day in cash when we meet. Whichever you prefer!

If we need to cancel, is the retainer refundable?

The reservation retainer and all monies paid are non-refundable. Once you pay the retainer and sign the agreement, I hold your session date exclusively for you and will not accept any other commissions for that date.

What if there is an emergency and you can't attend the session?

In the event of severe medical, natural, or other unforeseen emergencies it could be necessary to retain a different photographer. I am a member of many photographer networking groups that can be contacted to find you a suitable replacement photographer. If you prefer, you may source your own substitute photographer, and a full refund of any monies paid would be given.

How far in advance should we book?

I recommend up to three months in advance and do work on a “first-sign-first-serve” basis.

Can you hold our session date?

Unfortunately, I cannot hold your session date without a signed agreement and reservation retainer. Electronic agreements expire in five working days for this reason.
