The Session

What is the best time of day to photograph?

The best light happens just after sunrise and in the last two hours before sunset. I would strongly suggest an early morning session when the light is soft and there are fewer crowds (depending on the season and weather permitting).

How long will our session last?

My winter sessions are laid back, free flowing and on average last for around one hour.

Can you suggest places for us to take my portraits?

Of course! There are so many wonderful options here in Paris. Your personal preferences in addition to the time of day/year, the weather and even clothing choices all play a part in deciding the locations for your session. I'm always happy to give advice on which locations I think might work best for the look that you would like to achieve.

How many locations can I choose?

We can usually do one location in one hour. Depending what you are interested in I'll happily offer you recommendations.

Can we add on time?

I charge €150 per half hour for additional coverage beyond what our agreement includes. My sessions last for up to one and a half hours, however if you feel that this is not enough time we can always add on more.

I'm bad in front of the camera! Will you help direct me?

Of course. Don't fret - I'm a talker and have lots to say and plenty of ideas. I take an active approach to subtly directing you into the most natural and flattering poses. I like to keep everything as organic and as natural as possible. I'll make it painless and fun! It won't be nearly as bad as you think, I promise!

What if it rains?

This is not uncommon in Paris. We can certainly still work with light rain however in the event that the forecast is for heavy rain or a storm, rescheduling may be necessary and we’ll do our best to find another time that works for us both. If rescheduling isn't an option we'll bust out the cute umbrellas (I can bring some for you to use on request), photograph in adorable passages and embrace the Parisian café scene.

What if I need to reschedule?

I try to be as flexible as possible with scheduling and do not charge any fees to reschedule. I just ask that you let me know as soon as possible (at least 12 hours prior) if you need to change our session time or date.

What should I wear?

Your outfits should be a reflection of you! Neutral tones are ideal and light coloured clothing will help to reflect light (examples are white, blush, nude, yellow, gold and pastels). A touch of colour and some gorgeous accessories can really help brighten up your photos if Paris delivers an overcast day. Wear something that you are comfortable and can move in, that suits your individuality and makes you feel amazing! Ironing your chosen outfits the night before is highly recommended to avoid any necessary stress on the morning of our session.

Can I bring multiple outfits?

While this is not recommended for a one hour session, if there is a café nearby we may be able to incorporate one outfit change. Finding places to change is no mean feat in Paris and usually you will have to go into a café and order something to drink so that you can use their facilities to change. Please avoid bringing sizeable bags and clothing on coat hangers as when we stop for photos we'll need to put them down and leave them unattended.

What should I bring along to the session?

During the session, plan on only carrying the bare minimum. Please leave large bags and valuables at your accommodation (I’ll have a small bag to carry your essentials). Pack a warm jacket for those chilly mornings. If you are planning on wearing heels, don't forget to pack a pair of comfortable flat shoes (which are easy to change into) as we often walk a lot.

Should I consider getting hair and make up done?

Yes! I work with some very talented hair and make up artists here in Paris who I will happily put you in touch with once you've booked your session date. A hair and make up team can come to your accommodation in the early morning and will ensure that you arrive at our meeting point feeling totally gorgeous and ready to begin our session together.

Where should I send my shot requests?

I unfortunately do not accept shot requests, as it prevents me from creating the beautiful images that you see showcased on my website and blog. My photographs are custom tailored to you based on your personality, outfit selections, the weather and the locations. I love creating new and unique photographs!

The Images

How will you edit my images?

My editing style is minimal because my goal is always to capture natural beauty in the best light possible. My stance on Photoshop is that less is more and the photos that you’ll receive will have been hand edited by yours truly.

Can I choose which photos you will edit?

I don't offer my clients the opportunity to choose the final images that I will edit for your gallery. Rest assured that you will receive the crème de la crème of what we take on the day!

When and how will I receive my images?

Your best 20 images will be delivered digitally within 30 days of your session. I will email you a link to your personal and password protected online viewing gallery to download the high-resolution files and share them with your family and friends (as well as on your website and social media) if you so wish.

How long will the images be available in the online gallery?

I can guarantee that the images are available in the online gallery for three months following the date of delivery.

Can some of my photos be edited in both black and white and in colour?

The images that I edit and deliver in black and white are only available in black and white. If you have preferences for more/less black and white images in your final gallery, just let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate your wishes.

Can I have the original files of all of the unedited JPEGS?

The original photo files (what's referred to as the RAW images) are for studio use only. My process is to only select and edit the very best photos so that you don't have to! The images in your gallery will allow you to print canvases, large prints and a host of other items.

Can I see the outtakes (the images that didn't make the final cut?)

I will edit the images with the ideal compositions, facial expressions, lighting, backgrounds and focus and deliver in a way that reflects my style. The images you didn’t receive won’t be archived and therefore won’t be available to you after your portrait session.

Can I share my images on Facebook/Instagram?

Of course! I would love if you share your favourite images from your portrait session on Social Media. I kindly ask that you give a little shoutout in the caption (Photography by Katie Mitchell).
