The Wedding Day
Should we have a second photographer?
Totally! Although I do shoot the majority of my weddings solo, there is no harm (only benefit!) to having one, so I'm happy to arrange one for your day if need be. If you are having a large or logistically complicated wedding, I might suggest that you consider it. Two photographers = two different vantage points = double the usual coverage I can provide alone. Sounds good to me!
What kind of equipment do you use?
I use professional Nikon equipment. I will always bring two camera bodies and several back up lenses to a wedding, including enough batteries to power a small village. I got you.
What if you haven't shot at our venue before?
I love shooting at new venues. Seeing a location with fresh eyes is always valuable! I travel frequently for weddings so even if I have not been to your venue before, I feel confident that I would do an excellent job capturing it. If you are having a destination wedding, I will arrive early on the day of (if possible, perhaps even the day before) to scout it to make sure I know where the best spots to photograph are.
We're bad in front of the camera! Will you help direct us?
Of course. Don't fret - I'm a talker and have lots to say and plenty of ideas. I take an active approach to subtly directing you into the most natural and flattering poses. I like to keep everything as organic and as natural as possible. I'll make it painless and fun! It won't be nearly as bad as you think, I promise!
Should we do a first look?
It's totally up to you and a very personal decision! The two main benefits are having some quiet time alone together just the two of you before everything begins and getting most of your couple, wedding party, and family photos done before the ceremony (which equals a more relaxed photography schedule later on in the day). Oh, and you get to enjoy the cocktail hour! Hooray!
Will you take posed family portraits?
Absolutely. These are some of the most important images we’ll take on your wedding day. A vital part of your family history! A month before the wedding I’ll send you a questionnaire for you to confirm the logistics of your day and provide me with a list of the posed family photos that you would like documented. I would strongly suggest no more than around twelve groupings in total to ensure that they are quick, easy and enjoyable for everyone involved!
Can we provide you with a 'shot list' of the photos we would like?
Honestly, I’d prefer that you didn’t - here’s why! I will generally capture all of those images without promoting. Having to follow a checklist is likely to slow me down creatively and result in a lesser amount of documentary coverage on your day. I will always ask you to point out any very important relatives and friends in attendance so that we can ensure there is a photo taken of them/of you with them.
Can our guests take photos with their cameras?
Of course! I simply request that they let me capture the family portraits before they do, so that I can have all eyes in my general direction! Guests are welcome to take photos during dancing, the cake cutting and other events, however I don’t allow family or friends to join us when we go to take your couple portraits, as it can be rather distracting.
If we're running late, are you able to stay longer than scheduled?
Surely! Your wedding day may occasionally fall behind your agreed schedule. I will always allow for thirty minutes of grace of additional time should your schedule run later than expected. If you would like me to stay beyond the hours agreed to cover the events you have requested, any additional coverage will be billed after your wedding at a rate of €300 per hour.
How will you edit our images?
My editing style is minimal because my goal is always to capture natural beauty in the best light possible. My stance on Photoshop is that less is more and all of the photos that you’ll receive will have been hand-edited, one at a time, by yours truly.
Can some of our photos be edited in both black and white and in colour?
The images that I edit and deliver in black and white are only available in black and white. If you have preferences for more/less black and white images in your final gallery, just let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate your wishes.
When and how will we receive our images?
Your images will be uploaded to an online gallery, at the latest, three months from your wedding day. It all depends on my shooting and travel schedule and the time of year. I promise I'll be as speedy as I can though! I will email you a link to your personal and password protected online viewing gallery to download the high-resolution files so that you can share them with your family and friends (and on social media) if you so wish. Upon final approval of album designs, an album will be ready for delivery within ten weeks.
How long will the images be available in the online gallery?
I can guarantee that the images are available in the online gallery for one year following the date of delivery.
How many digital images do we receive?
For weddings, you will receive a minimum of 400 colour corrected digital images. For elopements, 150. These images will be uploaded to an online gallery and are ready to print!
Do you ever deliver more than 400 images from a wedding day?
The final number of images in your gallery often depends on a number of factors, including the number of hours of coverage, the length of the day, the weather and the number of guests attending. My average for an eight-hour wedding day is 400 images but this can vary as every wedding is different.
Can we have the original files of all of the unedited JPEGS?
The original photo files (what's referred to as the RAW images) are for studio use only. My process is to only select and edit the very best photos so that you don't have to! The images in your gallery will be the crème de la crème of what we took on the day and will allow you to print canvases, large prints and a host of other items.
Can we see the outtakes (the images that didn't make the final cut?)
Please know that when culling and editing your images I’m not striving to hit a certain number of images and throwing away any ‘good’ photos over and above. I edit loosely, taking out photos where eyes are closed, the flash didn’t fire or a guest may have walked in front of the camera. The images you didn’t receive won’t be archived and therefore won’t be available to you after the wedding.
Can we order prints through you?
Yes! You or your family and friends can order prints from your password protected online viewing gallery. Easy! You can also take care of your own printing if you wish.
Do we really need an album?
Personally, I think that if you’re going to spend thousands on wedding photography, you should walk away from it with something tangible to display your investment. We know all too well how easy it is for hard drives of photos to sit in drawers, waiting to be printed off. Wedding photos should be something that you look at often and cherish for many years to come (however I will never ever pressure you into buying something that you don’t want).
How does the album design process work?
After you decide that you’d like an album, you have three months to select your favourites. After you’re finished with the photo choices it can take up to four weeks for me to design at which point I will send you a link to a slideshow of your album. From the first rough draft, you can make any changes or proffer suggestions. Once I make those changes, I'll send another slideshow link of your album for you to approve. Once approved, it’ll go to the binder. The binder usually takes around six weeks to perfect the album. Once it arrives in Paris I’ll check through the album for integrity and quality before I wrap it up and send the album to you.
Payment & Booking
What is your payment schedule?
To book your wedding I require a signed agreement and a reservation retainer of €1000 (a bank transfer is preferred). The remaining balance will be due one month prior to your wedding date (I require payment in full before the event). I’ll send you an invoice when your final payment is due. Payment for overtime and albums will be invoiced after your wedding upon return from your honeymoon.
If we need to cancel the wedding, is the retainer refundable?
The reservation retainer and all monies paid are non-refundable. Once you pay the retainer and sign the agreement, I hold your wedding date exclusively for you and will not accept any other commissions for that date.
What if there is an emergency and you can't attend the wedding?
In the event of severe medical, natural, or other unforeseen emergencies it could be necessary to retain a different photographer. I am a member of many photographer networking groups that can be contacted to find you a suitable replacement photographer. If you prefer, you may source your own substitute photographer, and a full refund would be given.
How far in advance should we book?
I recommend up to one year in advance and do work on a “first-sign-first-serve” basis. To secure your date, a signed contract and reservation retainer is required. I cannot guarantee my availability or hold any dates without these two things.
Can we meet with you before we book?
Absolutely! In fact, I strongly recommend it. If possible we will set up an in-person meeting, or we can set up a Skype webcam chat at a time that is convenient for you.
Can you hold our wedding date?
Unfortunately, I cannot hold your wedding date without a signed agreement and reservation retainer. Electronic agreements expire in 5 working days for this reason.
Business & Details
Will you come to the rehearsal dinner?
I do offer rehearsal dinner coverage which you are welcome to add to your collection, however I don’t otherwise attend the rehearsals.
Would you like us to provide a meal for you at the reception?
It’s not necessary, but depending on your wedding location it would be lovely if you did (and much appreciated to keep me going through the night!). I prefer to be fed when you are so that I don’t miss anything important such as the speeches or your first dance. Don't worry - I can pretty much make do with anything even as a vegetarian.
How long have you been in business?
I started my wedding photography business after graduating from my Bachelor of Photography back in Australia in 2009. I photographed weddings there until I moved to Paris, where I now live with my wonderful Italian partner Emanuele.
